PTA Reflections

The PTA Reflections program seeks to encourage and recognize creativity among public school students of all ages. Students may enter in any of six categories:

(1) literature (original stories and poems);

(2) dance choreography;

(3) film making;

(4) music composition;

(5) visual arts; and

(6) photography.

Students are judged in separate age brackets (K-2 and 3-5 for our Fulbright Students). Last year, over 6100 students entered the state level competition; only one Fulbright student entered–a second grader who composed a piece for piano–and she won the silver medal in her age bracket. She was thrilled (and nervous) to collect her award in the packed banquet hall at the state PTA convention. Just imagine how Fulbright students could shine if more than one child enters this year! The work of state level gold medal winners is passed on to the national level, where award winning students may receive not only national recognition but also a trip to the national PTA convention!

This year, the Fulbright PTA is hoping many children will enter their creative work in a wide variety of categories. Obviously, there are more entrants in some categories than others (e.g., literature and visual arts generally receive the most entries), but we are hoping to enter as many children as wish to participate in any category.

The theme for this year’s program is "WOW"–so students have a broad range in which to let their imaginations work.

In order to allow enough time to ensure that applications comply with program regulations, all Fulbright applications are due at school by Friday, November 7.

If you would like more information about Reflections, or if you are a Fulbright parent with special skills in any of the six program categories and would like to teach a brief one-time workshop for kids who want to enter, please contact Beth Levi at bethlevi@juno.com or 228-6865. Let’s WOW the Reflections judges with our Fulbright talent!
