"I would teach children music, physics, and
philosophy; but most importantly music, for in
the patterns of music and all the arts are the keys
to learning." - PLATO

What's
Happening?
Music is a vital part of a well-rounded education. Aristotle said that music and gymnastics were the two most important subjects of education because they fully developed both the mind and the body. The College Board identifies the arts as one of the six basic academic subject areas students should study in order to succeed in college. Studies have shown that students with coursework/experience in music performance and appreciation show increased spatial reasoning, higher SAT scores, better grades, and increased self-esteem.
Students at Fulbright attend a thirty-minute music class twice weekly. Study involves a four-stage learning process; imitation, exploration, literacy, and improvisation. This is accomplished through listening, movement, instruments, speech, and singing. We are lucky to have an Orff instrumentarium and place an emphasis on the process of the ORff-Schulwerk.
